This LP was Tim Curry's debut album as a solo artist. It was followed by Fearless in 1979 and Simplicity in 1981 (his third and final solo album). Prior to these albums though, Curry was actually involved in a recording project with Rocky Horror producer Lou Adler which resulted in the release of one single in 1976 ("Baby Love" backed with "Just Fourteen").
Only a couple of songs on this album are original - "Alan", written by session musician Tony Kosinec, and "Sloe Gin", written by producer Bob Ezrin along with Michael Kamen (session musician on this album, producer on later albums). The rest are covers of songs originally recorded by such diverse performers as The Beatles, Dionne Warwick, Joni Mitchell, The Move, and Rough Trade. Each song is recorded in its own distinctive musical style, from reggae ("I Will") to Scottish folk music ("Wake Nicodemus").
The songs "Birds Of A Feather", "I Will", and "Anyone Who Had A Heart" were all re-released on CD format in 1989 as part of the Best Of Tim Curry CD. A previously unreleased live version of "Alan" was also included on the same CD. All other tracks from this album have never been reissued.
