RBD were simultaneously a Mexican pop group and a telenovela ("Rebelde", 2004-2006). In the television series a group of high school students form a pop band, which also happens to be a pop band in real life as well (shades of Miley Cyrus!). They released their first album ("Rebelde") in November 2004 to great success, hitting number two on the Latin Albums charts and spending over two months in the Top 5. In July 2005 the "Tour Generación RBD En Vivo" CD and DVD were released, documenting one of their sold out live performances in 2005 at the Palacio de los Deportes (seating 23,000 people) in Mexico City. Two medleys of cover songs were performed, with the first medley featuring four songs recorded by pop group Timbiriche. One of these was Baile Del Sapo, a spanish language version of The Time Warp translated by Julissa for her 1976 production of El Show De Terror De Rocky. The song was later covered by Timbiriche, one of whose members was Julissa's son Benny Ibarra, on their 1983 album En Concierto. It should be noted that RBD was specifically covering Timibiriche's performance of the song, so at this point it's actually twice removed from Julissa's original production of El Show De Terror De Rocky.
The original CD release of "Tour Generación RBD En Vivo" had two wildly different pressings in Mexico and the U.S., both released by EMI Music. The U.S. version left out two long medley tracks that were present on the Mexican version (the first of which includes the Baile Del Sapo cover!) and instead adds a studio recording of the song "Liso, Sensual". This brings the running time for the U.S. version down from 72:32 to 46:46. Obviously you don't want to get the U.S. version if you can help it, particularly if you're looking for 'Baile Del Sapo'.
In 2006 the Edición Diamante Double CD was released, assumedly to commemorate RBD's first album "Rebelde" being certified diamond (selling over 500,000 copies in Mexico). The first CD is exactly the same as the Mexican version of the original release (i.e. with the medleys included, thankfully) while the added second disc is a CD-ROM with a documentary, photo gallery, wallpaper graphics, game, etc. The CD case is packaged inside a slipcase, which serves to differentiate its appearance from the original CD.
