The Rocky Horror Show Vocal Selections book was released in 1991 to coincide with the ongoing production of The Rocky Horror Show at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End. It's a music book with all the songs from the show arranged for piano/keyboard, voice, and guitar. In addition to the music, guitar chords, and lyrics the book also contains five pages of B&W photos from the 1991 London stage cast (which was a very different lineup from that featured on the 1990 cast album). Performers pictured include:
Dr. Frank-N-Furter: Anthony Head
Brad Majors: Craig Ferguson
Janet Weiss: Zalie Burrow
Riff Raff: Tim Whitnall
Usherette/Magenta: Kate O'Sullivan
Columbia: Vicky Licorish
Rocky: Adam Caine
Dr. Scott: Ivan Kaye
Of these performers, only Adam Caine was recorded on the cast album a year previous in the same part. Zalie Burrow and Kate O'Sullivan were Phantoms at the time. Two other replacement performers became quite well known in their own right. Anthony Head (frequently credited as Anthony Stewart Head, to avoid a name conflict in the U.S.) was a phenomenally popular Dr. Frank-N-Furter, replacing Tim McInnerny. Anthony Head's performance run lasted from October 29th, 1990 through June 22nd, 1991, and he would later reprise the role of Frank for a six week stint at Duke of Yorks Theatre in 1995. He also made appearances as Frank-N-Furter on VH1's Rocky Horror Celebrity Karaoke in 2000, and at the Royal Court Theatre's Rocky Horror Tribute Show in 2006. Outside of Rocky Horror circles Anthony Stewart Head is primarily known as Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on television, a role he played for the entirety of the show's seven season run from 1997 to 2003. Craig Ferguson replaced Adrian Edmondson as Brad Majors, and later became well known for his role as the office boss Nigel Wick on The Drew Carey Show from 1996 to 2003. Then in December 2004 he was announced as the successor to to Craig Kilborn as host of The Late Late Show, for which he's recorded over eight hundred episodes as of this writing in 2009.
In 2006, the Rocky Horror Show Vocal Selections book was reprinted in the U.K. by Wise Publications with the addition of a new CD containing karaoke "soundalike" backing tracks using the same 1990 London Cast arrangements as are presented in the sheet music. This is a departure from most Rocky Horror karaoke albums, which are typically based on the arrangements used in the 1975 film instead. The U.S. version of this reprint was issued in 2007 by Amsco Publications, and is the version pictured here at present. There appear to be only minor differences between the two releases.
As of this writing in 2009, both reprintings remain in print and are easily available from Amazon (Amsco Publications) or Amazon UK (Wise Publications).
