its a natural little tweak all musical plays go through fo translation into film....of the subject matter the way they are in the film just fits more than the stage lyrics. for the stage the lyrics are fine but they work better the other way in the film. its an english play and the lyrics are more universal in the film rather than defining it just as terms the english understand
I know things are tweaked in transition from play to film but why is it the only song that was changed? As for it being a 'British' play, it played in the UK, USA & Australia without any problems before being filmed. In fact none of the show's lyrics are British sounding, I mean what is a 'patootie'?! Definitely not a word we use this side of the Atlantic in the UK.
