I know the earliest audio recording is from March 14th 1975, but I've always wondered what the earliest circulating video footage is.

There are clips on youtube from the closing night of the Australian production of 1988 (i think thats the right year) and there is also the full recording of the final 1989 Hanley production. Rumours of a Belasco 1975 video circulate every so often by a member on this forum (his friend has it but refuses to release it, or something along them lines) so i dont know if that will ever surface...

I've seen the 1976 Melbourne production on film, colour and sound. I presume this is the oldest. It's a mix of film and broadcast video, with Max Phipps as Frank. Reg Livermore was videoed in 1984, full show, as well. These video recordings are not for general exhibition, and belong to private estates. The Max Phipps film is under copyright. It's a great pity that they are not shared, but I'm thankful for seeing them and having access. One day, hopefully they won't be so coveted.
