Post subject:  Richard O'Brien demos released on CD Baby?

Hi all, in a discussion on The Singing Stage forums about the recently-released Royal Theatre demos for Rocky, I had a user respond by mentioning that 4 ROTOQ demos were also commercially released a couple years ago. I have no recollection of this nor do I know about the project they mentioned called "Alive on Arrival."

Any help with debunking this would be greatly appreciated!

Quote:
Richard O'Brien did [release these demos] on CD Baby. It's simply titled "Richard O'Brien Demo Sessions" with tracks from both Alive on Arrival and Revenge of the Old Queen. Track listing below. I didn't realize that this was something that people didn't have... as I bought it for about $9 back in 2013. It doesn't seem like it's for sale anymore. I'd question it's authenticity but O'Brien talks during the opening track introducing what is on the album and O'Brien is definitely singing lead on every song.

1. I Know I I'm Not Dead Yet (Alive on Arrival)
2. The Chase Is On (Alive on Arrival)
3. Forbidden Love (Alive on Arrival)
4. I Just Want to Go Home (Alive on Arrival)
5. Nothing Matters Only Us (Alive on Arrival)
6. The Moon Drenched Shores of Transylvania (Revenge of the Old Queen)
7. The Rocky Road to Love (Revenge of the Old Queen)
8. Never Let Your Daughter Date an Alien (Revenge of the Old Queen)
9. The Short End of the Stick (Revenge of the Old Queen)

Thanks, John

That's almost definitely fake. (What's "The Rocky Road To Love", anyway? No song of that title seems to exist, certainly not in the script.)

Not to mention, given Richard's dislike of ROTOQ material getting out, I doubt he'd ever release his demos.

The Moon Drenched Shores of Transylvania was leaked a while back and was introduced to everyone on Rocky Radio. That track has made the rounds as far as bootleg copies go. The other songs NEVER leaked or released and if they were then NO ONE who is in Rocky horror Community has them and if they do they are secretly hiding it.

Alive of Arrival sounds familiar but I've never heard of any demos being released from it.

NOTHING WAS EVER COMMERCIALLY RELEASED except this new Royal Court Theatre demo tape that is obviously Richard and obviously in the early stages.

Richard gave this new tape release HIS BLESSING and refused to let anyone hear anything OR READ the ROTOQ script at the 2011 convention in Atlantic City. He forbid them from doing so. A lot of that became Shock Treatment anyhow.

I did buy the demo tape they put up for sale. It makes you wonder just how much stuff they have that people haven't heard before.

As far as these demos go, I don't know why Richard feels the does. I would have thought after 40 years in the business he might have lightened up about many things, i would have thought the Rocky Horror demo tape was a sign of that happening. Unfortunately it is the fans that lose out in the end. I've no doubt once Richard passes away and hopefully that is not for a very long time, but no doubt when that happens you will start seeing more stuff getting released officially and legally.

Especially with the fanbase being what it is now. You would have thought he would have wanted to make as much money off this stuff as he could now while the interest is at a high again with the Anniversary rather than locking it away gathering dust.

That's not true - the script at the 2011 convention was "Rocky Horror Shows His Heels" ("Revenge" was a sequel script written in the Nineties). To be fair, most of "Heels" is unrelated to Shocky - Richard only reused some (but not all) of the music.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Richard flat out told them not to read "Heels" at the Con; Richard was angry because they wanted to show 'The Rocki Whore Picture Show' (which they didn't in the end), and cancelling the RHSHH reading was just an attempt to get on Richard's good graces.

But I could be wrong; that's the version I heard. :)
