I'm with you there, especially if the picture's improved from the DVD.

i don't know about other parts, but, in a recent fan review of the Blu Ray released in Hong Kong last week, he revealed that they took all of the blue out of Brad's bedroom scene, (much like the took all the blue out of the time warp flashback scenes on the DVD and all of the pink out of the dressing room scenes in Shock Treatment on DVD. I do not get how people who claim to be professionals would not research the color scheme of a film and make sure they get it right when they re-master it. Isn't that their job?

THe same review also said the sound is mix is pretty similar to the crap 5.1 mix they used for the DVD. At least they're supposed to retain the option to play the film with the reasonable facsimilie of the original mono mix on the US Blu Ray.

the tru hd 7.1 audio is fantastic, the reviewer is biased this audio sounds nothing like the 5.1 and is mixed comletley different than this 7.1 the 5.1 used a different source to master from this is from the original magnetic stems.
the company who remastered this for the blu ray went back to the original negative...they used the original magnetic audio tracks on the negative for the 7.1 track and I have to say it sounds brilliant. you are hearing things you never heard before tons of nuances abound. the colors are different and vary by scene. most of the scenes in the laboratory are washed and very light (this is compared to the dvd) these are limitations that unfortunatley happen in going back to the original negatives. At least it wasn't dark like the dvd. all you have to do is turn down the brightness on your tv monitor or just turn your hd tv to the movie setting and that will correct and lightness as well as any scenes that look washed out but actual films from that era are going to look washed out anyway. Brads room still retains a blue tint its just very faint. we all grew up on the technicolor 15th anniversary vhs for so long and the dvd for another 10 years that anything that has deviated from how we remember it must be wrong but that mentality is wrong. Janets room in shock treatment wasn't supposed to be overwhelmingly pink it was like that because of the video vhs sources and television. The actual film doesn't make it that overwhelming either.

don't bother paying over $40 for the blu ray from hong kong unless you HAVE to have it to live. you won't get the book that is supposed to come with the us release you won't get the mono soundtrack....just be patient.

completely disagree with you on the colors of brads bedroom and janets dressing room in shock treatment. I have an unfaded 16mm film print of Shock Treatment printed in 1981 (yes, I am positive it is unfaded. I collect films as a hobby. I would recognize if there was any kind of fade in the print). Janet's dressing room is supposed to be that pink. I also have an unfaded 35mm print and a unfaded 16mm print of Rocky Horror, both printed in 1984. Brads bedroom is quite blue. I havent seen the Blu Ray yet, but from the sound of it, they fucked up. (same with the tinted flashback scenes. They are most definetely tinted blue in my prints).

When I have time, I'll be happy to scan frames from these prints so all can see what these scenes are supposed to look like.

don't get me wrong I totally believe you and agree mostly. what I mean is that when they remaster the films the said scenes with the color schemes get messed up because they just run them through filters and timcoding instead of actually watching over th epicture and staying true to the integrity of the cinematography. sorry if I made it sound like I was saying that becuase its on film and old therefore its faded and thats why it isn't on these remastered releases....that totally wans't what I meant so yeah I do agree with you there.

I wish all my films that I collect were on actual celluloid, thats cool. do you have a place where you can view them often?

cool. BTW, I only paid $26 including shipping for the Hong Kong dvd. I got it mainly for the dubbed audio tracks. (AANNNDD so I don't have to wait for the October US release). I'll also be purchasing any other foreign Blu Ray releases for the sole purpose of the dubbed audio tracks.

As far as the 7.1 mix...which I have not heard yet. I do realize they did a new remix for most of the music (I believe the interview with the remixer at the official RHPS site said he only remixed 7 songs and used the 5.1 for the rest). However, from what I am told, the problem with the 7.1 is the same problem the 5.1 has. They mixed the music and certain instruments WAAAYY too high to the point of drowning out vocals at some points. (Hot Patootie is a perfect example of this. You can barely hear Meatloaf over the music, and in praticular that GOD AWFUL HI-HAT CYMBAL they have potted up WAYYYYY to loud in the mix)

I have not heard yet if they fixed the music over the ending of the Blu Ray, using the Trnasylvanian Jam instead of a re-edited time warp instrumental.

No matter what, I think I am ALWAYS going to prefer the original mono mix to any current remixes. I think they got the feel of the rooms the songs were performed in perfect in the original mono mix. The original mono mix fits the tone of the film like a glove and enhances some of the scenes."I'm GOing Home" actually gives me chills in that mix.
I am GRATEFUL they put a decent facsimile of the original mono on the DVD/US Blu Ray.

With all of the digital gadgets they have to manipulate images these days, i see NO reason why the job shouldnt be done properly and the digital artists should be using an original print of some sort to compare to when manipulating a film for Blu Ray release. It seems like a big cheat if they don't.

I have a 16mm projector at home and I am a manager at our theatre where we do Rocky , so, I pretty much have access to the 35mm projectors anytime after (or before) hours. I've spent MANY hours there runnign trailers and my personal prints afterh hours.

he means that the one from hong kong has a japanese dubbed audio track (for dialogue only not the musical sequences) and so on for other foreign countries I'm guessing he wants to collect the various dubbed audio tracks.

Actually, from what I understand, the Hong Kong dvd has a Cantonese and a German dubbed track. The Japanese dub will be on the Japanese release I am assuming.
And yes, Glenn, Autoamerican is correct, only the dialogue will be dubbed.

I've always wondered if there were any dubs made, shame it took so long to get 'em released (eg: the Chinese VCD is in English), hopefully some will turn up on the other regions' discs.

BTW the blu ray also has a feature called "Rocky o-ke (Sing A Long)" like "Karoake" like the Sing It" album only this is like nothing you have heard before. You have an option of doing the special feature with audio or without; that means with or without vocals.....now the cool think about this feature is that its the original mono magnetic soundtrack minus the center vocal/dialogue stem....!!! You can hear the mono film soundtrack and its accompaning music and the sound effects minus the vocals all the while the lyrics are displayed on the screen in rocky horror font. Doing what the "Sing It" album did before as far as showcasing some of the brilliant musical arrangements that were pushed to the front where the vocals were absent.

This sheds more new light on the orchestration of the mono soundtrack and the arrangements. you should give it a listen. This feature only does the 18 songs nothing else.

Auto: That sounds really interesting. I am looking forward to hearing the karaoke tracks.

Glenn:

Before the Blu Rays, ther was rumored to be a French dub and a Greman dub released on VHS, but I personally was never able to locate a copy or even confirm they actually exist. Believe you me, I was searching for them hard.

I´m located in germany and do collect since more than 20 years - there is definately NO german dubbed version yet! All german releases are in english, subtitles are available on the DVD-releases. It´s been on TV many times here - the 1st time was Oct.29th 1985 - with german subtitles. It was released on VHS in germany for the 1st time in 1984 - English version, original Mono-Sound (which is the best ever and they should never have remixed the sound of the original!!!)
If they really put a german dub on the blueray I doubt that it´ll work! German spoken passages work on stage, but it´s an awful thought to have it in the movie!
BTW, there is a german-dubbed version of the XXX-Classic THE ROCKY PORNO VIDEO SHOW!

I kind of gave up on the hope of a VHS German dub when I acquired one of the 1984 VHS German releases. I assumed that was the first release in Germany and if it wasn't dubbed on the first release, I highly doubted it would have been dubbed later.
