RCA Victor is ready to rock your world with "The Rocky Horror Show - The New Broadway Cast Recording" from the hit production that opened to rave reviews in November, 2000. The show has just been nominated for "Outstanding Revival of a Musical" and "Outstanding Director - Christopher Ashley" by the Outer Critics Circle. With book, music and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, "The Rocky Horror Show - The New Broadway Cast Recording" features new renditions of the hard-driving, raunchy rock ballads that have become classics in the quarter century since the musical first opened and became a pop culture phenomenon. "Time Warp," "Damn It Janet" and "Science Fiction Double Feature" are rock songs sung like rock songs along with such other favorites as "Over At The Frankenstein Place," "Sweet Transvestite," "I Can Make You A Man," "Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch Me" and more. The recording was produced for records by Jeffrey Lesser and the recording engineer was Ed Rak. "The Rocky Horror Show - The New Broadway Cast Recording" will be in stores on CD and cassette on May 15.
"The Rocky Horror Show - The New Broadway Cast Recording" stars three time Emmy Award winner Dick Cavett, 1998 Obie Award winner Lea DeLaria, Tony and Drama Desk Award winner Jarrod Emick, Alice Ripley (Tony nominee), Daphne Rubin Vega (the original Mimi from Rent, Tony nominee), Raúl Esparza, Sebastian LaCause and Tom Hewitt as "Frank 'N' Furter." A story of love, lust, manipulation, seduction, submission, domination, creation, satisfaction, biological advancement and simultaneous orgasm, "The Rocky Horror Show" traces the bizarre adventures of the super-square Brad Majors and his amazingly virginal fiancee, Janet Weiss. They try desperately to survive the diabolical Riff-Raff, his incestuously fashionable sister, Magenta, and her rock-n'-rollin' best friend, Columbia, her dangerous biker-boyfriend, Eddie, the pectorally perfect, Rocky, several Transylvanians, and the world's most powerful, but sweet transvestite - a man simply referred to as Frank 'N' Furter - who will change their lives and libidos forever. The show was directed by two-time Obie Award winner Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
"Genius! Exhilarating, grand silliness. Go!" exclaimed Entertainment Weekly when "The Rocky Horror Show" opened. Newsday proclaimed it, "Amazing!" adding, "Broadway finally got a rock musical right! And, damnit Janet, it's 'The Rocky Horror Show' done with imagination and brains. For once the spectacle is just the beginning." The Daily News called it, "A delightfully lurid musical. Clever and hilarious with a superbly accomplished cast," while the Boston Herald raved, "Warped and wild, the hottest party of the year. For sheer visual and aural impact, 'Rocky Horror' is stunning, a joyous party."
"The Rocky Horror Show" is produced by Jordan Roth. Performances are Tuesday - Friday at 8:00 P.M, Saturday at 5:00 P.M and 9:45 P.M and Sunday at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M at the Circle in The Square Theatre, 1633 Broadway (on 50th St.).
