Born: As Barry Knapp Bostwick on February 24th, 1945 in San Mateo, California.
Barry Bostwick was cast for the part of Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) as a Tony Award nominated stage actor (he originated the role of Danny Zuko in Grease on Broadway) who had done limited film and television work at that point. American actors were wanted for the roles of Brad and Janet, and Barry Bostwick's friend Susan Sarandon asked him to audition with her. Apparently director Jim Sharman had originally asked Cliff De Young (who would later play Brad Majors in Shock Treatment) to do the part, but he was busy with a television show at the time. After Rocky Horror Barry Bostwick continued a long and successful career acting on stage as well as in film and television, including two more Tony Award nominations and a six year run on CBS's Spin City as the Mayor.
