Richard O'Brien served as host of this extremely popular U.K. game show for four seasons, from 1990 through 1993. It was regularly Channel 4's most watched program, reaching a peak of seven million viewers for the 1993 Christmas special. When Richard left the show, he was replaced by Edward Tudor-Pole as host. Amusingly Edward Tudor-Pole was a fellow Rocky Horror Show alumni (and Riff Raff!), having performed on stage in the 1990 London revival. The show lasted for only two more seasons after Richard left. Oddly enough for an adult program, it turned out that fully 40% of the viewing audience was 16 years of age or under. Assumedly because they enjoyed seeing all the adults making complete fools out of themselves. This also resulted in Richard O'Brien being introduced to a whole new generation of people who were not familiar with him from Rocky Horror. The Crystal Maze was named "Greatest UK Game Show of All Time" in a 2006 poll by the UKGameshows web site.
