The Musical World of Rocky Horror

The Rocky Horror Show is the stage musical which started it all, created by Richard O'Brien (writer of the book, music, and lyrics). It first opened in London on June 19th, 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, a tiny 60-seat venue. After a very successful four weeks, it transferred to the Chelsea Classic Cinema and then other locations for an initial run of 2,960 performances in London through 1980. It also had a highly successful American run at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, produced by Lou Adler and featuring both Tim Curry as Frank and Meat Loaf as Eddie/Dr. Scott. Many members of the original London cast were also involved in the film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show:

PERFORMERS OTHERS

Today, The Rocky Horror Show can still be seen live on stages worldwide. Professional performances in the U.K. and Europe are typically produced by The Rocky Horror Company, Ltd. Amateur productions are also allowed in the USA though, with rights handled by Samuel French. RockyShows.net keeps a listing of live performances around the country.

(Hot Patootie) by 1986 Mexican Cast - 2 minutes 47 seconds (320x239, 30 fps, 6.4 MB). Recorded as a music video for television by this production of El Show De Terror De Rocky (i.e. The Rocky Horror Show). Performed by Gerardo González as Eddie.
Rocky Horror Show Promo Video (Teatro Arnau in Barcelona, Spain) by 1996 Spanish CastRocky Horror Show Promo Video (Teatro Arnau in Barcelona, Spain) by 1996 Spanish Cast - 2 minutes 13 seconds (320x262, 25 fps, 5.2 MB). "Kyra interpretó a Frank-N-Furter en la versión catalana de ROCKY HORROR SHOW estrenada en el teatro Arnau." Their Frank does Sweet Transvestite on roller skates, believe it or not!
Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite (With Bob Simon as Dr. Frank-N-Furter) by 1996/97 European TourTime Warp and Sweet Transvestite (With Bob Simon as Dr. Frank-N-Furter) by 1996/97 European Tour - 8 minutes 4 seconds (320x240, 25 fps, 16.6 MB). Excellent video from the 1996/97 European Tour of The Rocky Horror Show, performing both The Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite in their entirety. Bob Simon is featured here as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who some may remember from the Frankie Goes To Hollywood Convention in California (he's also seen in the footage from that convention on the A Regular Frankie Fan DVD).
Over At The Frankenstein Place [reprise] (2001-11-18, featuring Sebastian Bach as Riff Raff) by 2001 Broadway CastOver At The Frankenstein Place [reprise] (2001-11-18, featuring Sebastian Bach as Riff Raff) by 2001 Broadway Cast - 1 minute 7 seconds (352x260, 30 fps, 7.4 MB). Bootleg audience tape from the Broadway Cast of The Rocky Horror Show on November 18th, 2001. As is usual for such tapes, the quality is pretty terrible and there are people in the way periodically. Sebastian Bach (from Skid Row) joined the production as Riff Raff when it re-opened around Halloween 2001. They added this brief reprise of Over At The Frankenstein Place to the beginning of the second Act, just for him.
Sweet Transvestite (2001-09-09, featuring Terrence Mann as Dr. Frank-N-Furter) by 2001 Broadway CastSweet Transvestite (2001-09-09, featuring Terrence Mann as Dr. Frank-N-Furter) by 2001 Broadway Cast - 4 minutes 7 seconds (540x404, 30 fps, 27.5 MB). Bootleg audience tape from the Broadway Cast of The Rocky Horror Show on September 9th, 2001 (just two days before certain other events in New York City). As is usual for such tapes, the quality is pretty terrible and there are people in the way periodically. Terrence Mann replaced Tom Hewitt as Dr. Frank-N-Furter from August 30th, 2001 through the end of the production. Other performers include Mark Price as Riff Raff, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Magenta, Aiko Nakasone as Columbia, Kristen Lee Kelly as Janet, and Jarrod Emick as Brad.
Time Warp (2001-04-20, featuring Joan Jett as Columbia) by 2001 Broadway CastTime Warp (2001-04-20, featuring Joan Jett as Columbia) by 2001 Broadway Cast - 5 minutes 23 seconds (540x400, 30 fps, 36.1 MB). Bootleg audience tape from the Broadway Cast of The Rocky Horror Show on April 20th, 2001. As is usual for such tapes, the quality is terrible and there are people in the way periodically. But it's likely the only way most of us will be able to see or hear any of Joan Jett's performance as Columbia, as she was unfortunately not part of the cast album. The usual Columbia tap dance here is replaced by a Joan Jett guitar solo. Other performers include Raúl Esparza as Riff Raff, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Magenta, Kristen Lee Kelly as Janet, Jarrod Emick as Brad, and Dick Cavett as the Narrator.
Time Warp (2001-11-18, featuring Sebastian Bach as Riff Raff) by 2001 Broadway CastTime Warp (2001-11-18, featuring Sebastian Bach as Riff Raff) by 2001 Broadway Cast - 5 minutes 21 seconds (352x260, 30 fps, 35.8 MB). Bootleg audience tape from the Broadway Cast of The Rocky Horror Show on November 18th, 2001. As is usual for such tapes, the quality is pretty terrible. Sebastian Bach (from Skid Row) joined the production as Riff Raff when it re-opened around Halloween 2001. Other performers here include Daphne Rubin-Vega as Magenta, Liz Larsen as Columbia, Kristen Lee Kelly as Janet, Jarrod Emick as Brad, and Gilbert Gottfried as the Narrator.
Time Warp (Live at 55th Annual Tony Awards) by 2001 Broadway CastTime Warp (Live at 55th Annual Tony Awards) by 2001 Broadway Cast - 2 minutes 16 seconds (320x240, 30 fps, 5.4 MB). The 2001 Broadway Cast of The Rocky Horror Show appear live at the 55th Annual Tony Awards, representing their nomination for 'Best Revival of a Musical' (they were beat out by 42nd Street). Cast members performing The Time Warp are Dick Cavett, Tom Hewitt, Alice Ripley, Jarrod Emick, Mark Price, Kristen Lee Kelly, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Lea DeLaria, Sebastian LaCause, and The Company. They even get Gwyneth Paltrow out of her seat and dancing with them... lovely! Originally aired on June 3rd, 2001.
