This all started out as an experiment with a change of mood in my artwork. First came the dark moonlit water... then I came across a photo of a man acting in jest as if he were going to step over the edge of a building. I decided to use the same idea in the playful photo. But I changed the mood by making the person appear to be attempting suicide. This made a wonderfully depressing foreground to my moonlit shoreline. Adding the broken champagne glass, the lone pier, and the discarded roses, really brought out the mood I was shooting for. Thoughts of New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco ran though my head while creating the different buildings in the scene. This could be a waterfront in any major city (with the exception of the East coast call letters for the radio station), and this could be any fool that has such low self esteem to end a love affair this way. But will he actually do it? Pencil sketch scanned and "painted" in the computer. December 15, 1998.
