The
Observations of Henry
Published 1901 Dodd, Mead &
Co. - New York
Cover art (see scan at left). Also, embellished with
a single color illustration opposite the title page.
Binding:
Orange cloth with an illustration of "Henry" the waiter on the
front. Pages even cut, no gilding. (see scan at left).
Availability:
Extremely rare. (Has not been reprinted in the U.S. in over 25
years)
Synopsis:
An amusing collection of tales told of people from various social
levels of that day and age. The binding element of these stories
is that they were all related to J' by a Swiss waiter named
Henry.
Note:
Excerpts of this book have been printed as stand-alone short
stories in Munsey magazines in the early 1900's.
Observation:
Watch for the mention of the restaurant's view of the Matterhorn
that J' has while he is listening to Henry. This seems to hint
that the beginning of this particular book sprung from one of J's
many holidays spent in Switzerland, where he liked to go skiing.
Makes you wonder who "Henry" really was.
